WHO WE ARE / OUR JOURNEY
About Puerto Rico Agrotech
Puerto Rico Agrotech was born out of the longing to own a small piece of land where Pedro Nieves and his wife, Patricia Crumley, could grow part of the food their family ate at home. They were growing increasingly aware of the need to consume locally and noticed the difference in taste and quality of locally grown foods from imported goods. When Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated Puerto Rico, the need to find and consume locally grown foods was only exacerbated.
Hacienda La Madriguera, where Puerto Rico Agrotech operates, is located in the Bayamoncito Ward of Aguas Buenas. The farm had previously been in operation but was abandoned after the September 2017 hurricanes. The farm was acquired over the summer of 2019, and immediately began to rescue the plantation. The name Agrotech comes from the desire to operate the farm sustainably and efficiently, using technology to aid in farm management whenever possible.
